New program to deliver sustainable energy to California homeowners

Vivint Solar teams up with the Fuel Rewards® program, Shell, and sonnen
6 min read

Today Vivint Solar, the Fuel Rewards program, Shell and sonnen team up to introduce an exciting new program that incentivizes California homeowners to adopt clean, reliable, and sustainable home energy at no upfront cost.

Working together, Fuel Rewards members in California will earn $1 off per gallon at participating Shell stations on 50 fill-ups* (up to $1,000) when they install a Vivint Solar energy system, and $1 off per gallon on 75 fill-ups* (up to $1,500) when they install a Vivint Solar energy system with a sonnen home battery. Fuel Rewards members may stack other incentives with this program, which is open for enrollment from May 18 through August 16, 2020.

California rewards members can now save substantially more money at the pump while getting a new, low home energy rate for no money down with a Vivint Solar PPA or Lease option.

This strategic promotion will accelerate the building of cleaner energy solutions while helping more California households become resilient in the face of increasing planned and unplanned power outages and cleaner with the benefits from the safest and best-in-class solar energy and solar battery storage solutions.

If you are not currently a Fuel Rewards member, you can sign up below to take advantage of this amazing offer.

Why should I go solar?

Not too long ago, solar energy was a pipe dream. Now, there are more than 1.8 million solar installations in the U.S. alone (and counting). Going solar provides a variety of benefits for homeowners and the environment. We could go on and on (solar is kind of our thing), but to get started, here are four key solar energy benefits that you should know about:

1. Potentially lower electricity costs
Let’s start with the obvious: saving money on power is one of the most popular solar panel benefits. There’s no such thing as “free” energy, but many homeowners who’ve made the switch to solar have enjoyed a lower, more predictable rate with their solar energy production than before.

2. Smaller carbon footprint
It’s no secret that solar power significantly helps reduce carbon emissions. Generating energy from clean, renewable sources instead of fossil fuels can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, resulting in cleaner air and healthier environments.

3. Higher home value
Another solar energy advantage: purchasing solar panels may increase the value of your home. Research from a 2015 Lawrence Berkeley National Lab report found that homeowners in California who owned solar panels sold their home for more than comparable homes without solar (they looked at roughly 22,000 homes and about 4,000 had solar). The average increase in sale price was about $15,000 for a typical 3.6 kilowatt system.

4. Net metering
Does your local utility allow net metering? That’s another way to put money back into your wallet with solar. Net metering is an arrangement where your utility issues you energy credits for excess power your solar system generates and sends to the local utility grid.

As solar becomes more and more reasonable in price and efficiency, you may be wondering if it’s time for you to get some solar panels for your home. Let’s be honest, it’s a big decision but one that comes with benefits.

Why should I add a home battery?

Did you know a home battery can help protect your home from increasingly common power outages in California (and beyond) while helping you use more of the solar power you produce throughout the day? Adding solar + a sonnen battery to your home provides a long list of benefits, but to get started here are four reasons to consider:

1. Safe, reliable backup power In California and several states across the country, it’s more important than ever to have a backup power plan.Pairing a Vivint Solar rooftop solar system with a safe, long-lasting sonnen home battery allows you to store excess clean solar energy and use it to power your home when it’s needed most. By adding a sonnen battery to your home, you gain peace of mind knowing that you will keep your lights on and safely power your family, no matter what happens next.

2. Solar power on demand During hours when solar panels don’t generate electricity (at night or on a cloudy day, for example), your home must draw power from the local grid once the sun stops shining. However, by adding a sonnen battery to your solar home, you gain the flexibility to power your home at night with stored sunlight. And this clean power is replenished daily when the sun rises.

3. Eco-friendly and sustainable power sonnen is a safe, long-lasting and recyclable cobalt-free home battery with over 50,000 installations around the world. So, in addition to giving you reliable power and extending the value of your solar energy, a sonnen battery contributes to a cleaner, more reliable energy future with minimal negative environmental impact.

4. Smarter energy management In some markets, including California, the intelligent sonnen battery considers specific Time of Use (TOU) and Net Metering rates when making decisions on the most cost-effective way to power your home. Most homeowners use more energy in the morning before leaving for work, and then again in the evening after returning home. These peaks in demand put a strain on the local grid and are a cause for the creation of Time of Use (TOU) pricing to try to shift demand to off-peak times. If your utility is one of the many that has introduced a TOU rate structure, then you’ll most likely be paying more for energy during times when you need it most. A sonnen battery allows you to store excess cleaner, cheaper solar energy produced during the day and use it to power your home when the rates go up.

*Fuel savings are limited to twenty (20) gallons of fuel per purchase per vehicle or fraud limits placed by the Redeeming Participant and/or limits placed on your payment card by your financial institution, each of which may be lower.
