Troubleshooting a SolarEdge HD Wave Screenless inverter

You have a SolarEdge HD Wave Screenless inverter. Now that we know what type of inverter you have, we’re going to have you check a few things on it.

Check the functionality of your SolarEdge HD Wave Screenless inverter

1. On the inverter, locate the black, circular switch and make sure it’s pointed to the “ON” position.
  1. Next, locate the red power switch positioned behind the inverter, on the left-side (you may have to crane your neck a little to see it).
  1. Check to ensure that the red power switch is pointing to the ON (1) position.

The ON (1) OFF (0) indicator is very small, but you can see it on the front face of the inverter, just below the area to where the red switch is pointing.

Now that we’ve checked to ensure your SolarEdge HD Wave Screenless inverter was properly activated, we need to check to see if it’s connected to the internet. Because the HD Wave screenless doesn’t have a monitor screen built into it, we’ll have to go through a quick series of checks to determine how your inverter connects to the internet. Let’s get started.

Look for a wired communication gateway

To check if your SolarEdge HD Wave Screenless inverter uses a wired communication gateway to connect the system to the internet:

1. See if you can locate the gateway itself.

It’s white, about three inches tall, and has an antenna on the side of it. It’s usually plugged into the power outlet nearest your internet router.

  1. If you don’t know what your internet router looks like, here are a few examples:

If you found it, that’s great! You’ve just confirmed that your SolarEdge inverter uses a gateway to connect the solar energy system to the internet. Click the link to go to the next step in Troubleshooting a SolarEdge system with a wired gateway connection.

If you couldn’t find the gateway—don’t worry. We’re going to have you look for another device.

Look for a wireless communication gateway

In some areas, we’ve started testing out a new piece of equipment that allows homeowners to use the Vivint Solar App to update their wifi credentials online. To check if your SolarEdge HD Wave Screenless inverter uses this wireless communication device to connect the system to the internet:

1. Go to your inverter.
  1. Near your inverter, see if you can identify a square, grey box with philips head toggles at each corner.

If you found it, that’s great! That’s all we needed to know. You don’t even have to open it. All we needed to confirm was that your SolarEdge inverter uses a wireless communication gateway to connect the solar energy system to the internet. Click the link to go to the next step in Troubleshooting a SolarEdge system with a wireless gateway connection.

If you couldn’t find either a gateway or a Sentinel device—don’t fret—that just means your SolarEdge system connects to the internet through a built-in channel.

Assume an internal connection

Because you weren’t able to locate a device that connects your SolarEdge system to the internet, it must mean that your SolarEdge inverter uses an internal cellular device to ensure your solar energy system stays online.
