Vivint Solar San Diego

San Diego is an ideal city for solar. Not surprisingly, a major feature that makes a location more beneficial for homeowners to switch to solar power is how much sun the area gets on average.

As one of the 20 sunniest U.S. cities, San Diego gets an average of 263 days of sun every year. That makes it one of the best cities to install solar.

Locals in San Diego have been part of a culture embracing clean, renewable energy for decades.

In fact, San Diego was (again) named one of the top 20 cities leading solar installations across the U.S. by Environment America. It came in as the No. 2 solar city, with 287.2 megawatts of solar installed.

Why Vivint Solar San Diego

At Vivint Solar, we’re proud to serve the San Diego community locally. We know San Diego, we know the people, and we’ve learned what would serve you best.

We bring the information and support needed to make the best decision for each and every solar installation. You don’t have to do any guesswork. We take care of the “headachy” stuff like paperwork and permitting. Then we install a system we know you’ll be happy with.

Vivint Solar offers lots of ways to save on solar in San Diego, such as the LG Chem solar battery. Storing the energy your panels produce for later use is ideal in areas such as San Diego, where time-of-use electricity rates can dramatically change how much you pay your utility company at a given time.

With a solar battery, you can save power when electricity rates are low, and pull power from your backup when it’s more expensive.

Choose the right solar plan

With all of our solar plans, you’ll get a unique and customized solar energy system, a 20-year warranty on your solar panels, and a team of solar experts to walk you through the whole process, from a solar consultation to installation and beyond. The only difference is how you decide to go solar.

How to Vet Solar Companies in San Diego

Licensed, Bonded and Insured?

One of the most important things to look for in a solar installation company is whether it is licensed, bonded and insured. This helps protect you against shoddy work and any potential mishaps that could occur during the installation.

If a solar company is not licensed, bonded and insured, it’s best not to do business with it at all. This is standard for most contractor transactions, and it’s just as important with solar.

Product and Workmanship Warranty?

A red flag to watch for in a solar company is whether it offers both product and workmanship warranties. Sometimes companies will try to slip this one by you by simply saying, “We offer a warranty.”

However, simply having a warranty on the solar panels themselves (a product warranty) is not enough. The company should be able to guarantee that the installation will be done to industry standards and that your home won’t be damaged during the process.

AC versus DC?

One last tip for when you’re gathering quotes from solar companies in San Diego: Ask if their quote is in AC wattage or DC wattage.

It’s important that the estimated quote be in AC wattage or usable kilowatt hours. This is because although solar panels generate solar power with DC wattage, this power has to be converted to AC in order to be used in your home.

Some solar companies fudge the numbers to make it seem like you’ll be generating more than you actually might by giving you a quote in DC wattage. If they can’t give you an estimate in AC wattage or usable kilowatt hours, it might be time to move along.

Of course, Vivint Solar in San Diego is licensed, bonded and insured. We do offer both product and workmanship warranties for all of our solar options, from purchasing the system yourself to loans, leasing and PPAs.

Lastly, we’ll give you a quote in usable kilowatt hours so you have a realistic expectation of how much power your solar panels should generate, on average, every month.
